The Only Piece Of Soap She Had In Her House.
I recently found the home of the woman who helped us with a piece of soap which we used to seal the leaking fuel of our car tank when it was damaged during the violence which took place on 10th and 11th September 09 in Kampala City where much property and lives were lost.
I reached her house around 5.30pm and found her breastfeeding her young child and the husband washing clothes. They live in one small room near the main road to our area of residence.
I identified myself as the man who came to their house requesting a piece of soap to help seal our fuel tank. The woman was able to identify me and was overjoyed to see me back and safe.
She narrated to me that when I came, she felt a great conviction to help me, even though that was only piece of soap she had in her life but could not resist giving it away! I thanked her and got the family contact and made a contribution to their family and prayed a prayer of blessing to the family.
Like the 10 healed of leprosy… Jesus asked: “were not 10 cleansed? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Luke 17:17
We thank God how he positions people in such time of need. Much as that piece of soap is less than a dollar in terms of price. To us was worth more than a million dollars.
We thank also Marsha our friend in Virginia who I had sent an email before I left office that I was going to the city but there is violence and she kept us in prayer with Psalm 91. God heard her prayers and all of you who kept us in prayer.
On Door To Door Evangelism/Training Held On 24th October, 2010
With support from our international partners, Reach the Unreached Ministry (RETUM) in Partnership with Walls of Salvation Church had door to door evangelism in Bwaise on 24th October, 2009.
Walls of Salvation Church is pastored by Pr. Apollo Masaba. Bwaise is one of suburbs located in the North of Kampala city. It is a community where most people of low income earners live. It is well known for its slums, floods (due to heavy rains) witchcraft, thieves, conmen, and drunkenness.
We reached in Bwaise at 10:30am (Walls of Salvation Church) and set off into the community at 11:00am. We were 14 people including members of Walls of Salvation Church. We found that the place had flooded with water the previous night due to heavy rains (photos attached). The roads were impassable and water entered into people’s homes because of the poor drainage system. Moving from the church to the community was not easy because the whole area was covered with water (floods). The Pastor (Pr. Apollo) had to bring for us some gumboots which enabled us to cross to the other side of the road. We had 2 pairs of gum boots which we used; two people would put them on to cross, then take them back for other members until all of us crossed over. (see photos here).
While preaching we met a witchdoctor whose shrine had flooded with water and didn’t know what to do!!!. After 2 hours, a total number of 21 people had committed their lives to Christ and promised to come to church on Sunday. We left the church members with that responsibility.
Challenges
• Because of floods (due to poor drainage system), we failed to go to people’s homes
• People couldn’t listen to the gospel because of the problem of water entering into their homes
• Transport
We give God all the glory.
On Door To Door Evangelism/Training Held On 6th March, 2010
On Saturday, 6th March, 2010 Reach the Un-reached Ministry (RETUM) missions department had door to evangelism in Kyengela, at Kyengela Miracle Centre Church. Kyengela is located on Masaka Road, that is North West of Kampala City. It is 5 miles from the City centre. Kyengela Miracle centre Church is pastored by Pr.& Mrs. Eva Katerega. It has a population of 50,000 people and it well known of immorality and witchcraft.
As we were praying last year in November,2009, God told us to go to Kyengela town and do door to door evangelism. It wasn’t easy since we didn’t know anyone there until God connected us to the Pastor’s wife – Mrs. Eva Katerega.
We started with training then after, went into the community for evangelism. We noticed that people in that community really wanted the word of God, though some chased us seriously and refused to listen to the gospel. A total number of 21 people committed their lives to Christ.
Challenges:
• It rained heavily (for 4 hrs) in the morning and made us start very late
• Traditional Religion (some people thought that they were saved in their traditional religions like practicing witchcraft)
